Below are the most common reasons for system lockups regarding USER IDs. These lock-ups can include JOB LOCKS and/or WRITE LOCKS. It is best practice to only be logged into one session at a time on each device/computer, as the locks can prevent a user from being able to complete important tasks.
To prevent system locks, it is best to avoid the following:
- Using one USER ID to log in multiple computers
- Having multiple windows running BMS simultaneously on a single computer
- Letting a computer time-out and/or sleep while still running a program (i.e. posting AP, posting AR or being inside a quote/order)
- Leaving a process unfinished or unanswered (i.e. during report printing when asked, “Did the report print ok?”)
If you do experience a Write Lock:
- Pay attention to the User and Date of the lock.
- If the lock is from a previous day, you can clear it by going into AP -> Payment Selection. You will get a message letting you know that a Soft lock was cleared.
- If the lock is from the same day and the User could potentially still be working in that area of the system, please reach out to that user.
- If the lock is from the same day and you know that no activity is happening (the user left for the day, was booted out of the system, etc.) please reach out to your support team and they can clear the lock for you.
