Changing a Company's Default Bank Account

How can we change our company's default bank account?
The information below will give you an overview of changing the Default Bank Account in your system.

Only BMS Support or a BMS Trainer can change the Default Bank Account in a customer's system. Please read below so you're aware of the critical steps that need to happen before contacting BMS Support with a request to change the default bank account.

There is a standard default bank account that can be set up for the Company and a Branch account option that can be set up separately, which requires a User to be in a specific Branch while posting payments and disbursements. As always, the User can change the default when issuing a check if they happen to be in a different Branch when making the disbursement.

***VERY IMPORTANT***
The process of changing bank accounts has a direct impact on business operations.

We require an appointment due to the following required items that need to be completed by someone within your Company before we make the change:

1. Every A/R Customer Payment Register in all Branches of the Company must be batched and cleared. Therefore, you cannot have any un-batched Deposits.
2. You'll need to create a G/L Account for the new bank, and you'll need to let Support know the new Account Number.
2a. The new Account Number needs to be added to the appropriate GL Report Formats.
3. All A/P Check Registers must be printed and cleared.
4. All G/L Journals must be posted, printed, and cleared.
5. Change the GL Account on each Payment Type located in the Payment Type Code Maintenance module. NOTE: No one can enter payments while this process is being completed.
6. Please let Support know if the following items need to be changed to the new Bank Account.
a. GL Cash Receipts
b. GL Cash Disbursements

If you would like a separate bank account per Branch, you need to provide Support with a list of Branches and the Bank Account G/L to use for the particular Branches.
Support will perform the changes, which must happen after hours when no one is working in the system. If multiple Company IDs exist, we suggest working on one Company at a time.
